cobrajetjohn: I think I have the quilting figured out and will start on Wed. Work tomorrow. Down to 1 day a week
Jun 30 2009, 12:31 AM
kquilts: There is quite a bit of solid blue in the border and 6-10" squares in the center of the quilt.
Jun 30 2009, 12:31 AM
kquilts: I have ideas for some parts of the quilt.
Jun 30 2009, 12:31 AM
cobrajetjohn: Do you have any double wedding ring stencils that you could use in the squares
Jun 30 2009, 12:32 AM
cobrajetjohn: The ones for the centre of the rings
Jun 30 2009, 12:35 AM
kquilts: I'm not sure. No stencils, but my daughter has a book with Amish patterns. Oh, I just though of were i might have a stencil, I will have to look. I usually just come up with my own pattern. I'm not planning to qult it heavily.
Jun 30 2009, 12:35 AM
cobrajetjohn: Or the ones for the triple irish chain squares.. celtic look
cobrajetjohn: I start in the middle because I use the Qsnap and don't baste. The frame pulls it tight and holds it in place. Yes it took both of us because you had to pull the ends tight and then put the clamps on, so one held the one end while the other got the clamp on then the other did the other end
Jun 30 2009, 12:48 AM
kquilts: My grandmother put her qu8ilts in a frame to tie. She didn't quilt them. She pieced all from recycled clothing.
Jun 30 2009, 12:49 AM
cobrajetjohn: A lot of my grandmothers are old clothes too. But she did some beautiful applique and did beautiful quilting. But her Mother was Amish
kquilts: Maybe I'll try the no basting on the wall hanging I have started. I'm thinking of not using a frame at all on the basted quilt.
Jun 30 2009, 12:51 AM
cobrajetjohn: Nana made for gifts and to be used. My wedding quilt has appliqued tulips, but I don't use it so it won't wear out. But it is on the bed in the spare room, not foldied away anywhere.
Jun 30 2009, 12:54 AM
kquilts: She only made pieced quilts that I know of. I wore mine out; I only have one square that I salvaged. It was an autograph quilt with while shirting in the centers. Since the shirting had seen bleach, they wore out first.
cobrajetjohn: I had a patchwork quilt that wore out . That's why I don't use the other one
Jun 30 2009, 12:57 AM
cobrajetjohn: Of course I have her wedding quilt from 1917 that her mother in law made for her. It is on a quilt stand so there is no strain on it as it is getting delicate, especially the back.
Jun 30 2009, 12:59 AM
kquilts: We have some that we do use. one of my first ones gets used for company. My daughter has two that she uses.
Jun 30 2009, 1:00 AM
cobrajetjohn: I use what I made. Then one of my Mom's is in the one spare room and Nana's is in the other spare room.
Jun 30 2009, 1:00 AM
kquilts: One my younger daughter made for us, I use for company. too much white in it to use with the cats.
Jun 30 2009, 1:01 AM
cobrajetjohn: I have a white dresden plate in my bed that Mom pieced and I quilted. The plates are all ginghams of every colour.
Jun 30 2009, 1:02 AM
kquilts: We have just about worn out a crazy quilt that husband's grandmother made, but he has another one that she gave to him that we haven't used much.
cobrajetjohn: Pretty well same as the time before.
Jun 30 2009, 1:09 AM
kquilts: Maybe Chris. glad you did too. that was the best night. I didn't make that, but read it later.
Jun 30 2009, 1:10 AM
cobrajetjohn: I try to get in on Monday, it's at 9 here, but on Friday if I can I try to babysit so they can go to a church group they like.
Jun 30 2009, 1:10 AM
cobrajetjohn: There is daycare, but the kids are better at home until 10pm and Grandma doesn't mind having them for a while to herself
Jun 30 2009, 1:11 AM
kquilts: That is nice for everyone. You can read it in the archives later.
Jun 30 2009, 1:12 AM
cobrajetjohn: I know, and Chris will make her synopsis as well. But from what I have read, Monday was the only night that really had a discussion on the topic
Jun 30 2009, 1:14 AM
kquilts: yes, that is true. WE did try to keep it to quilting, and I threw in some some ideas about using ties.
Jun 30 2009, 1:15 AM
cobrajetjohn: I finished piecing a log cabin quilt today for the war veterans, and one for a disadvantaged youth camp.(for the boys). My friend macine quilted the girls one and brought it back so I need to bind it now.
Jun 30 2009, 1:16 AM
kquilts: Monday covered most of what there was to say. There were only regular people chatting. No one new,
Jun 30 2009, 1:16 AM
cobrajetjohn: I have also just finished a memory quilt for my cousin with breast cancer and another one with quilt labels on the back for her daughters 14 year old friend with non hogkins lymphoma, who will be taking chemo for the next year. Been busy
Jun 30 2009, 1:18 AM
kquilts: That is a long time to be on chemo. That is the kind of lymphoma that my husband had (there are more than one kind in that family of cancers).
Jun 30 2009, 1:20 AM
cobrajetjohn: I don't know how often she gets it, just that she will be getting it for a year and probably miss her grade 10 because of it. She got her grade 9 because she ust missed a couple of exams, she was just diagnosed the first of June.
Jun 30 2009, 1:20 AM
kquilts: I think his was the large cell kind. That was 20 years ago. He had 12 weeks on chemo and then radiation.
Jun 30 2009, 1:21 AM
cobrajetjohn: Well I hope she is as lucky(?) and has many more than 20 years.
Jun 30 2009, 1:22 AM
cobrajetjohn: Also for my cousin, who just finished radiation for breast cancer, I survived 24 years ago and we just realized that our grandmother (not the quilter) also had it, so likely in our genes. My Doctor is looking into DNA testing for me because I have 4 grandaughters.
Jun 30 2009, 1:23 AM
kquilts: Sounds like it might be a good idea, so they can be extra viginant.
Jun 30 2009, 1:24 AM
cobrajetjohn: She is going to check into the cost. She said if ou are not in a study it could be very expensive, but said to come back in mid July after her holidays and she will look into it for me.
Jun 30 2009, 1:25 AM
cobrajetjohn: I see on facebook that Deb is at the hospital waiting to be Gramdma finally.
Jun 30 2009, 1:33 AM
cobrajetjohn: Well I have to go finish things up before bed, since I have to work tomorrow and can't do it in the morning. So talk to you late and have a good night
Jun 30 2009, 1:34 AM
kquilts: good night , glad we could catch up with each other .
Jun 30 2009, 1:51 AM
cabinquilter (guest): Hi Chris, This is cabinquilter. I somehow couldn't get on my pasword and etc. wouldn't work. So am trying again with the same stuff.
Jun 30 2009, 1:53 AM
kquilts (guest): hi
Jun 30 2009, 1:54 AM
cabinquilter (guest): will try again later
Jun 30 2009, 1:56 AM
